About

An image of Nick Werber sitting in tall grass in the middle of the forest.

Nick Werber is an integrative embodiment coach, writer, and educator whose work explores belonging, identity, and the imprint of family systems on the nervous system. His teaching centers on how survival patterns form, and how people can shift from coping and rumination toward a steadier, more regulated relationship with their own emotions and body.

He serves as a director and lead trainer at The Focalizing Institute 501(c)(3), where he trained intensively for nearly ten years under its founder, renowned somatic psychologist Dr. Michael Picucci. Today, he helps carry forward the Institute’s mission of advancing trauma informed somatic practices worldwide.

Nick has trained hundreds of therapists, coaches, and helping professionals across more than 15 countries. His teaching bridges nervous system science with lived experience, offering practical tools that support both personal transformation and professional depth.

He also maintains a coaching practice where he works with individuals and helping professionals exploring how family systems and generational histories shape identity, survival patterns, and belonging. Much of his work focuses on those who grew up in outsider or scapegoat roles, helping them untangle long held survival strategies and rebuild a felt-sense of belonging within themselves and in their relationships.

His work has been featured by The Omega Institute, The Embodiment Conference, and The MyWellbeing Therapy Network. To date, his writing and videos have been viewed more than 50 million times online.

Nick's Guiding Principles

These are the principles that guide all of Nick's work:

Absolute Non-Judgment
Before labels, expectations and cultural conditioning, what is simply is. To witness without judgment creates space around internal barriers and opens up new possibilities. The state of non-judgment alluded to here can move mountains.

Work from Resource
Any mending process often includes a sense that you are finding your footing on new ground. To take that step and connect with the person you want to be requires a strong sense that it is safe to do so. To support this, Nick always cultivates the resources required to feel safe in your environment and in your body. The result is that what previously felt like a giant leap ends up being a smaller, more manageable step.

We Walk Together
Nick works with you as an equal. Every person brings with them a body of experience and knowledge that can support transformation. To walk together is to honor and include the gifts that you offer to this process.

Overwhelm is the Enemy
Nick works with gentleness and compassion. Overwhelming your mind or body in an attempt to 'conquer' or 'bust through' an internal barrier rarely leads to a lasting resolution. For this reason, gentleness is vital to the process.

Coaching, Not Therapy

Nick's work, including his coaching, workshops, courses, and content, is educational and coaching-based in nature. He does not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical mental health services, and his work is not a substitute for therapy or psychiatric care.

His approach draws on training in Somatic Experiencing, IFS-informed parts work, and intergenerational trauma, and is designed to complement, not replace, the work of licensed mental health professionals.

For those who need clinical support, Nick maintains a referral network of trauma-informed therapists and is glad to connect you.

Selected Certifications and Trainings

Certified Practitioner of Focalizing (CPF) | Trained by Dr. Michael Picucci of The Focalizing Institute

Nick is a Certified Practitioner of Focalizing and serves on the advisory board of The Focalizing Institute 501(c)(3). Focalizing is an embodied, experiential approach that emphasizes nervous system awareness, emotional insight, and the relationship between mind and body.

Rather than focusing solely on analysis or problem-solving, this work encourages greater awareness of internal patterns, protective responses, and embodied experience. Nick integrates principles from Focalizing, family systems perspectives, genogram work, and mindfulness-based practices into his coaching and educational offerings.

Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Training (SEP)

Nick has completed the training portion of the Somatic Experiencing program and is currently in the final supervision phase toward SEP certification. Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach developed by Dr. Peter Levine that explores how stress and overwhelming experiences can impact the nervous system.

This training informs Nick’s understanding of nervous system regulation, resilience, pacing, and the importance of working with difficult experiences gradually and carefully. In his coaching and teaching, Nick applies these principles in a non-clinical, educational context focused on self-awareness, embodiment, and personal growth.

Inherited Family Trauma Training | Trained by Mark Wolynn

Nick has completed advanced training in inherited family trauma through the work of Mark Wolynn, author of It Didn’t Start With You. This perspective explores how family dynamics, attachment patterns, survival strategies, and inherited beliefs can shape a person’s sense of self and relationships across generations. The training integrates themes from family systems thinking, attachment theory, trauma research, and intergenerational patterning.

This work strongly informs Nick’s writing and teaching around black sheep roles, outsider identity, inherited shame, and the adaptive patterns people often develop within difficult family environments.

Certified Integrative Life Coach | Certified by The International Association of Counselors and Therapists (I.A.C.T)

Nick is a certified life coach whose work focuses on embodiment, self-awareness, relational patterns, and personal transformation.

His coaching approach emphasizes curiosity, nervous system awareness, values alignment, and understanding the protective strategies people develop over time. Rather than positioning clients as broken or in need of fixing, his work supports people in developing greater insight, flexibility, and connection to themselves.

Certified Family Constellation Facilitator | Trained by Suzi Tucker of the Bert Hellinger Institute, US

Nick has trained in Family & Systemic Constellations through the work of Suzi Tucker and the Bert Hellinger Institute USA.

Family Constellations is an experiential group process that explores how family dynamics, loyalty patterns, and intergenerational influences can shape present-day relationships and identity. This perspective informs Nick’s work with family outsider roles, belonging, shame, and relational dynamics.

Nick incorporates constellation-informed perspectives, reflective exercises, and genogram-based exploration into his coaching and educational work as tools for insight and self-understanding.
